  • 5 TIPS FOR A SIMPLE & QUICK JOB SEARCH

5 TIPS FOR A SIMPLE & QUICK JOB SEARCH

You are a new graduate ready to take the next big step in your life- which is to find a job.  Most people in this position will think to themselves, “How do I begin my job search?” From cover letter to resumes, to where to search and to apply it can seem like an impossible task. The most challenging thing to do is to take the very first step.  Then simply follow our five fail-proof tips to get the ball going.

    1. Optimize Your Resume

The first you will want to do is to update your resume. Make sure your resume lists all your experience as well as any accomplishments. They will help you stand out against all the other job seekers that are applying for the same position. Be specific with your achievements- use data, statistics, and percentages instead of using broad descriptions such as “top performer.” If you don’t have any previous job experience, you can list other accomplishments such as “having a key position in a student club.” Companies are looking for all types of skills such as teamwork, leadership, and effective communication, not just what is in the job description. Another good tip is to tailor your resume to each type of job you are applying too. To make this easier, we recommend that you create a basic outline that you can later tweak to fit each position. Finally, keep in mind that most companies use robots to filter out the best candidates. Read the job description and select keywords to include in your C.V and cover letter.  If there you have any of the skills that are required for the role, make sure they are included- this will help you get past the robots.

If this is your first time writing a resume, do not worry! The GRS team can help you maximize your search with their C.V writing service. If you want to take it one step further, their professional career coaches will teach you the skills you need to succeed in getting hired in your desired job field. The coaching service includes help in updating your C.V, preparation for interviews, and mock interviews.

    1. Clean up your online presence.

Once you have completed and edited your C.V, make sure that you update your LinkedIn profile with the most current version. LinkedIn is a social platform that caters to job seekers, so make sure that your profile represents the best version of you.

Cleaning up your other social media profiles is also essential. In this digital age, it is common for hiring managers to check the social profiles of potential candidates.  Make sure you remove any incriminating posts that are offensive or show you in a negative light.  You want your social profiles to show you in a professional light but also demonstrates your personality (besides everyone has a life outside of work).  A good rule of thumb is if it’s something that you wouldn’t want your parents to see, then it’s the same for a potential employer

    1. Don’t Discount Any Opportunities.

Opportunities for employment come in many forms and sizes. Even a conversation with a friend or a family member may lead to a job opportunity. You never know what contacts your friends and family can introduce you too. So, make the most of every social opportunity and speak to many people as you can!

Don’t forget about professional networking! If you a chance to attend any conferences, trade shows or become a member of an industry-specific association, do it! These are great opportunities for networking with professionals in the field that interests you. What is even better an in-person meeting helps hiring-managers attach a face to a name which will separate you from the countless applications that they receive.

Finally, the GRS Recruitment website is a excellent source for finding the ideal job. Specializing in Cyprus and Malta, they have an extensive network with a large database, making it an excellent resource for both clients and candidates. You can search by keyword, job sector, country, or region making finding your next job a simple as clicking a button!

    1. Set Goals

Obviously, your biggest goal in a job search is to get a job. However, this can quickly become very discouraging as it can take some time, and you’ll likely face some rejection before landing a job. Especially if you feel that you are not making any progress towards your goal. To avoid burn-out, we recommend creating a plan and setting some smaller goals such as spending X amount of time of your day sending out applications.

Spending an entire day applying for jobs is unrealistic- you are very likely not to spend all those hours productively. Setting small goals will help make an overwhelming task more manageable and keep you accountable and on-track. Plus, each time you achieve a goal, you will get a sense of accomplishment- this will keep you from getting discouraged quickly.

    1. Visualization for the Gold

Lastly try some visualization techniques to keep you motivated, even after you have sent your 30th job application. Many believe that visualization helps by you imagining where you want to be so that your brain can make it a reality.  Taking a few minutes in the morning and before you go to bed to visualize your ideal job- what are your tasks, how will you interact with colleagues, etc. How would it really feel working in the Facebook Headquarters? Including the five senses and as many details as possible will make the visualization more realistic. You can also put up posters with the logo of your dream company. You can even dress for the job you want and eat lunch or meet for coffee near your target company. Getting into this mindset will help motivate you to do whatever it takes to actually become part of that world.

Starting your first job search is undoubtedly an intimidating task, but hopefully, our suggestions help make that task easier. A positive attitude, perseverance, and a clear goal will take you a long way. Also, don’t forget the career experts at GRS Recruitment Solutions are always a call away and ready to help.

  • NEW 2020 LEGISLATION TO MODERATE BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY

NEW 2020 LEGISLATION TO MODERATE BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY

At a July conference, Finance Minister Harris Georgiades announced that a draft bill to regulate blockchain technology is scheduled to be ready by the end of the year.  The new law is part of the National Strategy of Cyprus for adopting blockchain technology into the private and public sectors.

    Why Bring Blockchain to Cyprus?

House President, Demetris Syllouris noted that the National Strategy “will contribute to our country`s effort for digital transformation, providing the necessary framework and a road map to explore the applications of distributed ledger technology and blockchain technology in various fields, to optimize procedures, and to address any potential risks and threats.” Syllouris, further explained that this strategy will help Cyprus move forward after being largely impacted by the economic crisis.  It will “radically change the structures of modern societies, the way they are organized and their operation.” Blockchain will help businesses modernize by reducing red tape and simplifying transactions (not only monetary) in a way that is fast and still secure.

A trial of blockchain implementation will begin with the following departments: Department of Land and Surveys, the Department of Customs and Exercise, the Tax Department, and finally the Betting Authority. Once blockchain technology is successfully adopted into these industries, the financial sector will be the next in line to receive blockchain technology implementation. Georgiades will coordinate the creation and implementation of new legislation until a new Deputy Minister of Policy and Innovation begins its operation on January 1, 2020.

    What is Blockchain?

“The blockchain is an incorruptible digital ledger of economic transactions that can be programmed to record not just financial transactions but virtually everything of value.” – Don & Alex Tapscott, authors Blockchain Revolution (2016).

In simple terms, a blockchain is “a time-stamped series of immutable record of data that is managed by [a] cluster of computers not owned by any single entity. Each of these blocks of data (i.e. block) are secured and bound to each other using cryptographic principles (i.e. chain).”

What are the advantages of blockchain technology?

    1. No Centralized Authority– Because a blockchain is an immutable shared ledger, anyone can access the information at any time. For large and complex companies such as the Forex companies found in Cyprus, this means that the workflow will become more efficient. As data sharing between departments become more accessible and quicker.
    2. Removes the Middleman– A blockchain has no transaction cost. No cost means that companies can increase their profits as they can replace business models that charge fees for transactions. For example, musicians don’t have to go through 3rd-parties (music distributors) such as Spotify to sell their music.
    3.  Transparency– According to BlockGeeks, “anything that is built on the blockchain is by its very nature transparent, and everyone involved is accountable for their actions.”

If you are looking for a recruitment agency which can help you hire or be hired in any industry including Blockchain, that’s us! GRS Recruitment is managing the largest range of career opportunities in Cyprus and Malta. Talk to us today!

  • AMENDMENT IN POLICY GIVES BIG OPPORTUNITIES TO BUSINESSES

AMENDMENT IN POLICY GIVES BIG OPPORTUNITIES TO BUSINESSES

In April 2019, an amendment was made to the Cypriot Prospectus Law regarding security offerings. The new bill changed the national law to raise the minimum-security offering value to which companies are obligated to publish a prospectus. The new law dictates that companies offering security offerings valued at less than 5 million Euro over 12 months are not obligated to issue a prospectus. However, for cross-border offerings, these companies are still subject to the notifications by the Prospectus Regulation (EU) 2017/1129.

This amendment was made possible by the privileges given to the member states by the Prospectus Regulation, and it comes into effect on July 21st, 2019. In contrast to the 5 million limits set by Cyprus, the Prospectus Regulation has a limit of 1 million Euros. Thus, companies who offer securities worth less than 1 million are not required to disclose a prospectus. This exception applies to all member states; however, if any of the member states choose to, they may enforce disclosure requirements for the companies who fall within the 1 million Euro exception.

    The formation of Prospectus Regulation

On July 1rst 2005 the Commission Regulation on Prospectuses (EC No 809/2004) and the Prospectus Directive 2003/71/EC (PD) were formed. Their purpose is to create a standard format for prospectuses across Europe that will allow companies to use the same prospectus when admitting securities in both their home countries and abroad. By making a standard prospectus format, it will enable companies to admit securities to other European countries without having to get reapproved by their local regulator. Standardizing the prospectus was done to reduce delays and costs caused by the re-application process. The legislation has the additional role of ensuring that investors have access to information that is consistent and standardized across its members. Setting these guidelines ensures that investors can make more efficient comparisons and thus better-informed decisions about the securities offered by various European companies.

Securities and Prospectus, what are they?

What exactly are securities and prospectuses, and what role do they play in foreign investment?

Prospectus: According to the European Council, “a prospectus is a legal document that companies issue to potential investors about the securities they are issuing and about themselves.”

They provide detailed information about a company’s finances, shareholding structure, and business thus they are an indispensable source of information for investors “and one of the key tools for companies wishing to raise capital across the EU securities markets.” (European Council)

Securities: These are crucial for companies as the sale of securities is one of the main ways for publicly traded companies to raise capital.

Prospectus Law Amendment: How does it affect Businesses?

Due to the changes made by the Prospectus Regulation, small scale offerings and start-ups will now be able to raise funds of €5.000.000 at a quicker and more cost-effective rate. Companies will no longer have to incur the cost of publishing a prospectus; instead, they will be able to allocate those funds in getting their business up-and-running. The revision in prospectus law is especially significant for companies from the fintech industry where costs of publishing and getting a prospectus approved can be pricey.

  • TEMPORARY WORKERS: WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE THEM NOW

TEMPORARY WORKERS: WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE THEM NOW

All companies, whether they are large or small, go through recruitment periods where they must hire staff to fill job vacancies. While most opt for hiring permanent staff, companies also have the option of temporary recruitment. Temporary recruitment provides an alternative solution for staffing, and it is especially helpful when it is an urgent vacancy. Temporary staff can be either hired directly by the employer or through a recruitment agency.

At GRS Recruitment finding temporary staff with the right skills is our specialty. However, we find that some businesses are still hesitant when it comes to hiring temporary staff. So, we have decided to sit down and explain why you should consider hiring temporary employees:

     Why Hire Temporary Workers?

    • Quickly Fill Vacancies: Sometimes, there are unexpected vacancies within an organisation (for example, due to an employee’s illness or maternity leave). Hiring temporary staff allows operations to continue without having to invest many resources into hiring a replacement employee.
    • Try Before You Buy:  Hiring temporary workers gives you the time to evaluate if a candidate is qualified for the position without having to invest in the cost and time of finding a permanent candidate.
    • Cost Savings:  By hiring temporary staff you can cut down on company costs.  Such as training, company benefits, workers compensation, and health insurance.
    • Timesaving: Working with a recruitment agency means you can save time as GRS offer you a 360 degree turnkey solution providing candidate screening, interviews, and offer and acceptance. Allocating the hiring of new staff to an employment agency gives you the flexibility to allocate your resources on your core business.

At GRS Recruitment, we have been providing temporary workers for over 14 years, and we were the first company to be licensed by the Ministry of Labor to provide temporary recruitment services in Cyprus. Whether you require a small or a large team of temporary employees, we will find the ideal candidate to fulfill your needs. All temporary employees are under a GRS contract, so we are responsible for all employer duties such as employee registration, payroll, and contributions. If you need a transient workforce, don’t hesitate to speak with one of our recruitment specialists.

Now that we explained the benefits of temporary staff, you might still be wondering which times temporary staff can be helpful.  Read further to learn which times temporary staff can be useful for your business.

When Should I Hire Temporary Workers?

    • Seasonal Peaks of Work: Some companies only work seasonally, so it doesn’t make sense to hire a large team of permanent staff. Instead, a group of temporary workers can help with the heavier workload during peak times while only having a smaller team of key personnel during the slower seasons.
    • Specialized Skillset: Sometimes, you need a specialized skill set for a short-term project. Hiring a temporary employee can fill the requirements of the position in both skills and time frame.
    • Vacancy Cover: substitute staff can perform the duties required by a position while the position is still vacant, or the company is waiting for a new employee to start.
    • Unanticipated Replacement: Sometimes, a position becomes available unexpectantly due to sick leave, maternity leave, vacation, or compassionate leave. For these last-minute occasions hiring temporary staff is a much quicker and cost-effective process.

At GRS Recruitment, we specialize in finding temporary staff for all industries. We have already used our knowledge, and expertise to help industry giants such as H&M, APR Energy, Nirosoft & Koor Metals, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development fill in employment vacancies with temporary staff. We will happily use our experience to help you find your next “star” employee.

  • GRS SPONSORS YOUTH RUGBY CLUB

    GRS SPONSORS YOUTH RUGBY CLUB

On Sunday April 14th 2019, The Limassol Crusaders mini rugby hosted and played in a tournament featuring the U7’s, U9s, U11’s and U13’s who played against teams from The Heritage School, Paphos Tigers, Akrotiri and the Larnaca Spartans. Sponsored by GRS and sporting GRS branded kit, the Limassol Crusaders mini rugby teams had a great day of tag rugby. GRS are proud of their association with The Limassol Crusaders and the company prides itself on its community participation and supporting sports for kids.

    About The Limassol Crusaders

The Limassol Crusaders are a Rugby Union club based in Limassol. Established in 2003 the club was formed after the 2003 Rugby World Cup. When the Cyprus Rugby Federation formed its own league, The Limassol Crusaders joined it. Following that in 2006 Cyprus formed a national rugby squad. Indeed, five members of the Crusaders actually played on the initial team that won their inaugural game against Greece!

Since then the Crusaders have hosted several touring teams from the UK, Holland, Palestine and welcome teams from the rugby world. In 2009 the 1st XV toured to Cairo and the junior team went to Athens. In 2012 the crusaders were in Rome on a very successful tour and in 2015 joined the Warsaw Rugby tournament winning the “Best Touring Side” and “Heineken Cup” Trophies.

Fast forward to 2019 and the club is thriving. In addition to the senior team, the Limassol Crusaders also encourage youth rugby. The club plays host to The Crusader Colts which is open to boys and girls aged 13 and older. It also provides training for younger member via the Mini Crusaders which is open to children aged 5+.

    A Passion For Nurturing Talent

GRS sponsors the Limassol Crusaders due to a shared belief in developing and nurturing talent and encouraging sporting activity for junior and seniors alike. Rugby is a physical sport that teaches discipline, fair play and sportsmanship.

Speaking after the tournament, GRS Founder Steve Slocombe says:

“We are delighted to be sponsoring the Limassol Crusaders Rugby Club and we want to help promote the game in Cyprus and it is open to all age ranges from 5+ for both girls and boys. In Rugby there is a position for everyone and unlike just about any other team sport, rugby is about all players having the same opportunity to run with the ball, pass the ball, and play defence. The game helps young people to develop their skills of confidence, teamwork and cooperation in a fun and physical environment.”

GRS wants to congratulate all the Youth Rugby teams that participated in the tournament on Sunday for their sterling performances.
