We offer a wide range of specialised and technical training packages at our training facility in Doha. The practical and theoretical courses are designed specifically to develop and enhance the skills and performance of people in the hydrocarbon and related energy sectors.

CompEx is an internationally recognised training qualification for Electrical, Instrumentation and Mechanical Engineers, Supervisors and Technicians who need to develop and demonstrate their competency in the selection, installation, inspection and maintenance of “Ex” apparatus in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Within our training facility in Doha, we offer a comfortable learning experience in a safe environment. Fully equipped state-of-the-art workshops for hands-on training and both practical and theoretical assessments. The Petrotec Training Centre provides excellent custom-built training facilities for courses that include OEM specific training and CompEx training.

Petroleum Technology Company W.L.L. (Petrotec) operates the first licensed CompEx approved competency validation centre in Qatar. The CompEx program is the recognized global solution for validating the competency of staff working in all industries with potentially hazardous and explosive atmospheres. Our mission is to support and promote workplace safety by certifying personal competency in the selection and use of electrical and mechanical apparatus in potentially explosive atmospheres.  CompEx courses are internationally recognized in accordance with IEC standards 60079-14 and 60079-17. Successful candidates are awarded an internationally recognized certificate of core competence that is valid for 5 years, demonstrating safety and competence.

This is a CompEx Awareness EXA course, designed to give participants an introduction to the basic understanding of hazardous areas and the principles of explosion protection.

 

CompEx Training Electrical

Foundation (ExF)

Petrotec offers a base 2-day theory CompEx course developed to give a full understanding of the responsibility and actions where the employee has control of/directs work or personnel who carry out the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and apparatus in hazardous environments.  It does this by providing a means where employers can satisfy their obligation under IEC60079-17 to have competence certificated personnel.

CompEx Training Instrumentation

Gas and Vapours (Ex01 – Ex04)

The 5 days modules Ex 01 – Ex 04 with theory, practical and assessment for electrical and instrument technicians who are involved in installing, inspecting and maintaining certified Ex electrical equipment in locations where gases and vapours can potentially create a hazardous area.

The course includes instruction on how to read hazardous area certification, labelling and documentation and focuses on the minimum specifications identified in IEC60079:0, IEC60079:10.1, IEC60079:14 and IEC60079:17.

Dust (Ex05 and Ex06) (coming soon)

Petrotec offers a 3 days Course Ex05 and Ex06 certification program confirms the core competencies required for electrotechnical workers who operate electrical and instrumentation equipment in environments with potentially hazardous dust atmospheres.

This qualification is structured around two key units that outline the minimum safety requirements and best working practices essential when working in dust-hazardous locations. Participants will gain an understanding of the considerations necessary for areas that may contain explosive or flammable dust atmospheres, including the factors used to classify these zones.

Upon completion, candidates will demonstrate the knowledge and practical skills aligned with the IEC 60079 series of standards as well as relevant national regulations. The Dust Qualification aligns with multiple IEC 60079 Explosive Atmosphere Standards, with particular focus on IEC 60079-0, IEC 60079-10-2, IEC 60079-14, and IEC 60079-17.

Refresher Gas & Vapours EX01RPP – EX04RPP

Petrotec offers 3-day CompEx Refresher course (EX01RPP to EX04RPP) provides a refresher and update training as well as assessments for electrical and instrument technicians who are working in hazardous areas. It includes training and assessments of the selection, installation and fault identifications within simulated workshop situations which allows operatives to continue to meet national competence standards. This course is based on the full course/assessment EX01 – EX04 course for personnel whose CompEx certificate is approaching expiry.

Mechanical (Ex11)

Petrotec offers a 3 day CompEx course with theory, practical and assessment for mechanical technicians who undertake visual and detailed inspections of a pump assembly with a practical installation element that is assessed based on a flange integrity management.

Responsible Persons (Ex14)

Petrotec offers a more advanced 4 day theory CompEx course aimed at individuals in a senior supervisory/ responsible role to enable them to meet the requirements of these IEC standards and relevant directives to manage skilled personnel and competent operatives/technicians conducting selecting, erection, inspection and maintenance duties. This course enables senior supervisory roles  such as those responsible for managing staff, processes and procedures relating to potentially explosive atmospheres, electrical and non-electrical (mechanical) equipment, protective systems and installations.

This qualification is structured around two key units that outline the minimum safety requirements and best working practices essential when working in dust-hazardous locations. Participants will gain an understanding of the considerations necessary for areas that may contain explosive or flammable dust atmospheres, including the factors used to classify these zones.

CompEx Small-Bore Tubing (coming soon)

Petrotec is working on offering a CompEx Small-Bore Tubing course. This certification is designed to enhance safety and competency standards for personnel operating in high-risk environments by assessing technicians to inspect and maintain Small Bore Tubing assemblies. This qualification has been developed in consultation with industry and is aligned with the competency requirements for persons maintaining and inspecting SBT assemblies defined by the current edition of the Energy Institute guidelines EI3080 for the design, installation and management of small-bore tubing assemblies.

The course includes a recap of SBT installation techniques Stage 1 and goes on to cover in Stage 2 the relevant legislation, hazards and risks associated with SBT assemblies, components used in SBT assemblies, pre job planning and preparation for visual inspection of SBT assemblies, visual inspection of SBT assemblies and reporting requirements.

CompEx Training Mechanical

Gland Ex Course

Petrotec offers a basic 2 day theory and practical course that allow a candidate to understand the construction of a cable gland and how to install cable glands as required to an acceptable standard such as the gland manufacturer. The hands-on practice course delivered by an accredited, approved and qualified instructor covers the assembly and construction of cable glands that are fitted into electrical equipment. Each participant to receive a Petrotec Attendance certificate. Personnel can use this course as a stepping stone for candidates who have limited practical experience in glanding and termination to progress into Ex 01-04.

We highly recommend this course for candidates not from a practical background.
