Lube Oil Upgrade: Ensuring Operational Readiness in Qatar

In February 2024, Petrotec – Team Services and Rentals was entrusted by a major Energy operator in Qatar to prepare five critical machines for a planned lube oil upgrade. This initiative was crucial to mitigate oil degradation and rising varnish potential without disrupting ongoing operations ahead of a scheduled Turnaround.

Recognizing the specific challenges posed by the client’s equipment, Petrotec deployed advanced Electrophysical Separation Process (ESP) units across all five machines. These ESP units, known for their adaptability, were customized to address the unique oil type and condition, effectively targeting oxidation by-products while preserving essential additives such as Antioxidants. To further enhance the process, solvancer was incorporated at the client’s request.

The results were significant. The varnish potential was reduced to acceptable levels, the oil was thoroughly cleaned, and the systems were fully prepared for the upcoming upgrade. This outcome underscores the efficacy of proactive maintenance strategies in ensuring operational reliability.
